Kids Fashion show: Twin magic

Celebrate every milestone, whether it’s small or big.

The time to celebrate my 1st milestone: 1 year anniversary of Fairyma online boutique. The excitement was at his peak. I had the idea to host a Kids Fashion show not only to showcase the versatility of my designs, but I wanted to connect with my audience, as well, at least from a local standpoint.

Just a few weeks before the show, I thought everything was set: date, venue, models, clothes and the like. And for a reason I couldn’t explain I felt a sudden urge to post the event on a mommy group I had recently joined on social media. Although I had some reservations about posting my event on the group page (you know when you feel like you’re hijacking someone’s page :-0 I’m glad I did, though.

So, after posting the flyer, one of the moms expressed her interest in the event and I was glad to add 3 more beautiful princesses; more girls, more fun, right? (as a mom of 3 boys I’m always pleased to see lace and flowers). So it’s Paige, 7 and the twins, 4.

I just couldn’t resist the magical power of the twins, my incredible Ps: Paris and Payton. They are just incredible. Uniquely incredible.wordswag_1494631396514.png Twins are twins, we get it; they share a special connection, but I’m sure they also aspire to their own identities as they do have a heart, a mind, a character of their own.

Well, Payton and Paris are no exception. They share such a strong bond it’s undeniable. Without words, you can see the connection they have; it’s almost as if they can ignore everyone around them for a moment. They don’t need to say much to each other, you can tell they trust one another and want to be in each other’s presence while maintaining their independence.received_1741424095884121

Payton is very decisive. As soon as she saw that shrug, she knew she wanted to wear it. Paris, too blew me away. Just like her name, she is sweet and has the ability to create her own magic; she is loving, charming and adventurous. Paris has autism and that didn’t stop her from being as excited about the show as were the other kids.

Although their mom and I were excited at the idea of having the girls participate for the 1st time in a Fashion show, she wanted to make sure that the entire flow of the show wasn’t compromised and her girls were feeling comfortable as well. As parents, we are our children’s first champions. They look up to us to find strength and confidence. I saw strength, dignity and felt nothing but admiration.

We can’t deny or be blind to the challenges, whether physical, emotional, social…that our children face, but we can make a conscious decision to empower them and teach them how to fulfill the mission and the purpose for which they exist. And I am so fortunate to have the incredible Ps be part of my show, part of my life.

I hope to encourage all the moms out there to let your child find their strength within their challenge. Believe in them for you will set the tone for how they position themselves in this world.

It has been one of the greatest joys of this journey so far. Thank you, Mini for the precious gifts you have given me.

Thank you, my sweet Ps, all 3 of you.:-*

One step closer

Tomorrow = 1 year anniversary of Fairyma. In the eyes of many, 1 is such an insignificant number; however, throughout this year I have learned so much about myself. Being able to balance life as a wife, mother, sister, daughter, business owner…you never know how much you can do unless you take the first step.

Let me say this, when you have an idea or a vision, you will also have more than one compelling reason why you shouldn’t do it (not the right time, not enough money, too much responsibility, and so forth and so on…).What you need to do is Pray.

Ask God for directions, for strength and perseverance. Once you are confident that He’s holding your hands just jump; don’t look back, don’t look sideways just jump because if you wait 1 second too long your dream will die before it even sees daylight.

Don’t assume it will be easy because God is in it. Be ready to face obstacles, challenges. You might even be confronted to your worst fears but keep holding on. It’s all part of the journey. Be grateful for the people you meet along the way and the one who leave you as well as they have accomplished their mission.

Love your skin: Cacao butter

Love your skin: Cacao Butter

Originating in the tropical forests of Central and South America, cocoa trees grow mostly in West Africa. As a matter of fact, the top world leader in production and exportation of cocoa beans is Cote d’Ivoire. I am always filled with joy and pride every time I read that the country in which I was born and raised, supplies 30 percent of the world’s total cocoa, leading the rest of the world. 😊

Abidjan, economic capital of Cote d'Ivoire

Cacao butter, like shea butter, is a powerful antioxidant.  I am sure you realized that I didn’t say cocoa butter as there is a difference in the process. Cacao is made by cold-pressing unroasted cocoa beans, thus preserving its molecular structure.

Rich in vitamins A, B, C, E, in minerals (iron, calcium, copper, magnesium), cacao butter has nourishing, softening, repairing and anti-cellulite properties. It prevents premature aging of the skin and promotes cell development.

In Africa, women use cacao butter during and after pregnancy for massage to prevent the appearance of stretch marks. Indeed, a massage with cocoa butter on the belly and thighs will help to keep the elasticity of the skin and to moisturize it deeply, and thus to avoid the appearance of stretch marks.

Surprisingly, cacao butter is known for its anti-cellulite effects. The caffeine contained in the hull of the cocoa bean has the virtues to burn the fats, and the butter itself contains a molecule that helps to dissolve the fats of cellulite.  It’s unbelievable how such a small fruit can contain so many qualities.

For those who have very dry hair, brittle, damaged, the cacao butter can be placed as a mask on the hair. It should be allowed to act for at least 15 minutes before rinsing and shampooing.

Use it also to treat chapped lips and restore your smile.

With its countless virtues, cacao butter’s best use is as a butter. Massage for a moment of relaxation while taking care of your skin.  Love yourself, love your skin.

Free at last!

Carrying baby on the back using a loincloth is a very common thing in Africa. It is part of our culture. how many pictures, movies or documentary show mothers in Africa walking down the street or Mothers walk down the street and do all their chores with baby on their backs. I’ve learned the trick when I was still a little girl playing with dolls, then mastered it with my nephew, my best friend’s baby and my own few years later.

Matter of fact, I back carried all 3 of my boys and it made my life so much easier. I remember when my oldest boy was 17 months old we were travelling back to the us from a trip back home. After long hours of layover in Casablanca, we both were exhausted and I could not hold his hand while pushing my carry on. Without hesitation, I pulled out my favorite loincloth (it was actually the 1st time I used it outside the home. Less than 3 minutes later, he was on my back and before I realized he was fast asleep. An older lady approached me; apparently, she had been watching us for a little and she was simply amazed at the picture. She wanted to know how I was able to hold him in such a way without him falling. (truth be told, I couldn’t explain. Back carrying had become so natural for me (let me tell you that not all Africans know how to, shocking, right?)  I personally find it simple and convenient. You are totally free to do so much around the house .and baby is just happy to follow you everywhere you go without a sweat.

I understand that not everybody will feel comfortable back carrying despite its numerous benefits. And that’s why Fairyma offers the baby sling as a great alternative.

It’s very practical, easy and quick to install and remove. It must, however, be well adjusted to be comfortable, in particular because of the asymmetry. Simply adjust by pulling or releasing the tail through the rings. The tail gives a very elegant look and, moreover, it can be used as a blanket to protect baby from wind, rain, sun or to breastfeed with discretion!

When you carry your baby, you convey a feeling of well-being, safety, warmth that no cradle or stroller can bring. It is a unique experience that allows him to discover the world in your arms. It helps him feel safe and reassured.

How many times have you witnessed a baby in his stroller crying his lungs out and his parents had to take him out and carry him while pushing the stroller around with that one hand? Well, with the sling you will not hear baby cry because she knows you are right there, she perceives your breathing and the sound of your voice and it’s all calming. Plus, don’t you enjoy walking around both hands free? Leave that stroller in the car, enjoy a walk in the park or around the neighborhood with your original Fairyma African Baby sling.
